BRIEF ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Building Construction Technology is a hands-on technical program that equips students with practical skills in construction methods, materials, project management, and sustainable building practices. It covers key areas such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, blueprint reading, and safety protocols, preparing learners for careers in the construction industy

Through a blend of workshop training, industry attachments, and theoretical knowledge, the program ensures graduates are job-ready for roles like site supervisors, construction technicians, estimators, and building inspectors. Emphasis is placed on modern technologies, energy-efficient designs, and compliance with building codes, making it a vital pathway for skilled professionals in the growing construction sector.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

PRIMARY AIM

The primary aim of the Building Construction Technology program is to develop a highly skilled, technically competent, and safety-conscious workforce capable of executing modern construction projects from setting-out to finishing, while adhering to the National Building Regulations and international best practices.

Technical Proficiency and Structural Integrity

Substructure and Superstructure Mastery: To equip students with the skills to execute various types of foundations, walling systems (blocks, bricks, and concrete), and reinforced concrete works.Blue-print Interpretation: To train students to accurately read and interpret architectural, structural, and service drawings for on-site implementation.

Setting-Out and Leveling: To master the use of modern surveying instruments, such as the Theodolite or Total Station, to ensure precise building alignment.

These subjects are thought to enhance learners' knowledge communications, socialization and social skills,enhanced computational skills the use of technology to improve work efficiency and the Entrepreneurial and Business aspect of the programme. The aggregation of these knowledge and competencies set the learner ready for the 21st century job market.
