The Fashion Design Technology Department is a dynamic and forward-thinking hub where creativity meets innovation. Here in Anlo Technical Institute, we equip students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of fashion. Our curriculum blends traditional design principles with cutting-edge technology, ensuring that students are well-versed in both the artistry and technical aspects of fashion. From pattern-making and textile design to digital fashion illustration and 3D garment prototyping, our programs are designed to reflect the demands of the modern fashion industry. We emphasize sustainability, encouraging students to explore eco-friendly materials, zero-waste techniques, and circular fashion practices. By integrating technology such as AI, virtual reality, and wearable tech into our teaching, we prepare our students to be pioneers in a field that is constantly redefining itself.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

PRIMARY AIM

The primary aim of the Fashion Design and Technology CBT course is to develop a highly skilled, innovative, and professional workforce capable of driving Ghana’s garment industry into the global market.

Specific Objectives

Under the CBT framework, the objectives are categorized into “Units of Competency,” ensuring students master specific measurable skills.

To enable students to master Pattern Technology, moving from manual flat pattern drafting to complex 3D draping.

To provide hands-on skills in Industrial Garment Construction, focusing on speed, precision, and the use of specialized industrial machinery (e.g., overlockers, buttonholers, and embroidery machines).

To master surface ornamentation techniques, including digital printing, screen printing, and the modernization of traditional Ghanaian Batik and Tie-dye.

Garment Designing is a core subject that focuses on the practical and theoretical aspects of creating clothing. It is a comprehensive course that equips students with the skills needed to design, construct, and produce garments.
Garment Construction Technology is a critical subject in fashion design and apparel education. It focuses on the technical and practical aspects of creating garments, emphasizing the methods, techniques, and technologies used in the production process. This subject is essential for understanding how to transform design concepts into finished, wearable garments.
Practical Work is a crucial component of fashion design education, providing students with hands-on experience in various aspects of garment creation, from design conceptualization to final production. This subject emphasizes the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, helping students develop the skills necessary for a successful career in the fashion industry.

Pattern Technologist (Pattern Maker):In an industrial setting, the Pattern Maker is the “architect” of the garment. They translate a designer’s 2D sketch into a precise 3D technical blueprint.

Garment Production Manager:This is a high-level supervisory role. The Production Manager ensures that hundreds or thousands of garments are produced on time, within budget, and to a specific quality standard.

Fashion Designer: someone who makes clothes; they are the creative architects of the “Orange Economy,” blending artistic vision with technical engineering.
