BRIEF ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Plumbing and Gas Fitting Technology is a vocational programme designed to equip high school students with the foundational skills and knowledge required for careers in the plumbing and gas fitting industries. The programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on practical training, preparing students for entry-level positions or further education in the field. Overall, Plumbing and Gas Fitting Technology is a practical and career-focused programme that prepares high school students for success in the skilled trades, addressing the growing demand for qualified professionals in these essential industries.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
PRIMARY AIM
The primary aim is to equip learners with the professional competence, safety consciousness, and technical skills required to install, maintain, and repair modern plumbing and gas systems. It seeks to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industrial application, producing “industry-ready” graduates who can function effectively in the construction and energy sectors.
Entrepreneurial Skills: Develop the ability to estimate material costs, prepare simple invoices, and manage a small-scale plumbing business.
Problem Solving: Diagnose and rectify faults in existing plumbing and gas installations through systematic troubleshooting.
Communication: Coordinate effectively with other site workers (masons, electricians, and supervisors) to ensure seamless project execution.

Graduates of the Plumbing and Gas Fitting Technology program in Ghana have a wide range of career opportunities thanks to the Competency-Based Training (CBT) model. Because this curriculum is aligned with the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF), your skills are recognized by both local industries and international employers.
Residential Plumber: Focuses on homes and apartments. You will install sinks, WCs, and water heaters, and maintain domestic drainage systems.
Commercial/Industrial Plumber: Works on large-scale projects like hotels, hospitals, and factories. This requires knowledge of high-pressure systems and industrial-grade boilers.
Gas Service Technician: A specialized role focused on installing LPG/Natural gas lines, servicing gas cookers/ovens, and conducting critical safety leak tests.
