MORE ABOUT BUSINESS STUDIES
In ANTECH, Business Studies is no longer just about office work, it has been strategically rebranded as a core pillar of the TVET Transformation Agenda, moving away from theory-heavy learning toward Competency-Based Training (CBT).
Business Studies in TVET is categorized under Business Trades. Unlike the general academic business track in Senior High Schools, the TVET track focuses on specialized, “saleable” skills. Key programs include:
Business Secretarial & Administration: Focuses on office management, digital literacy, and executive support.
Business Accounting: Emphasizes practical bookkeeping, payroll management, and the use of accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks).
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this department in the training of students to develop their business acumen for their future cannot be farfetched. Among these are:
to equip learners with the requisite knowledge of business transaction,
⚫ to inculcate in the learners the habit of proper record keeping with special emphasis on book-keeping, procurement and disbursement of funds.
- to know their legal rights and obligations in the signing of business contracts so as to avoid cheating or become victims from the activities of cantankerous players in the field, and above all,
TRADE AREA ELECTIVE SUBJECTS
Under the Competency-Based Training (CBT) model, these subjects are integrated to ensure that a student who knows how to fix a motor or design a dress also knows how to value their labor and build a sustainable brand.
In the Ghana TVET sector, Business Law is a practical module designed to protect technical professionals as they enter the workforce or start their own firms.
Unlike a general law degree, TVET Business Law focuses on the practical application of the specific Acts of Parliament that govern commerce, labor, and technical contracts in Ghana.
The curriculum is built on “Occupational Standards,” ensuring that students master specific, job-ready tasks. Key areas include:
Financial Accounting & Reporting: Mastering the full accounting cycle—from source documents to the preparation of Financial Statements (Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position, and Cash Flow)
CARRIER OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNERS
Marketing & Digital Commerce
As Ghanaian businesses move online, TVET graduates with a business background are being hired to manage the “Digital Storefront.”
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
This path is critical for Ghana’s industrialization (One District, One Factory) and the mining/oil sectors.
Entrepreneurship (Self-Employment)
The TVET “Startup” model encourages graduates to create their own jobs. Many Business Studies graduates establish:
Accounting & Financial Management
This is one of the highest-demand areas due to the digital transformation of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the push for formalizing small businesses.
